meeting roomEmergency Shelter

We offer emergency shelter in a homelike setting while you determine the best options for you and your family. We can provide temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence and their minor children. Our shelter is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Adult male victims are housed off-site, but come to the shelter during the day for meals and services. We provide a comfortable setting for victims and their children to begin to make decisions as they go forward to a life without violence. The shelter is a large, three story home in an undisclosed residential neighborhood that offers living and play space for families in shelter. Staff are always available to help clients as they work on their goals for themselves and their families.

Our hotline staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days per week to take calls from victims of domestic or sexual violence. Staff can provide information, assistance, and referrals to meet the needs of individuals. If a victim is eligible for shelter, staff will work with the victim to accomplish that goal. Local law enforcement, throughout LaSalle and Livingston counties, assists with transportation to the shelter.

We want our residents to be comfortable and to feel safe. We do have a few rules to ensure that safety and security are met for all residents and staff.

Our staff works individually with each family to assist them as they develop their own goals. ADV & SAS can assist the family in areas of housing, education, economic assistance, etc. Staff can help with transportation to goal-related appointments and provide information on resources in our area. Our Case Manager is experienced in working with families to meet their goals and establish their independence.

While in shelter, a variety of services are available for residents. The services include groups for domestic violence education, parenting, and life skills education. Children's groups are also provided. ADV & SAS can also provide supportive counseling at the shelter and our outreach offices.

While at the shelter, we ask that clients assist with household chores and evening meal preparation for the group. Generally, each family will prepare, serve, and cleanup after their breakfast and lunch. Residents work with staff to develop nutritious meal and snack menus for the week. An evening meal is prepared by the residents for the residents and their children.

Residents generally stay with us up to two weeks. A survivor can then request an extension of his/her stay. Staff will consider the individual circumstances, including whether the person is working on the goals they have set for themselves and following household guidelines regarding safety and security.

Contact us at any time to learn more about the shelter and the services we provide.
